Framed share certificate as a gift

Does anyone know if there's a service in Australia like Give A Share of Stock as a Unique Gift Idea - Official GiveAshare.com Website - One Real Share of Stock or Oneshare.com - Buy One Real Share of Stock. Gifts of Disney Stock and More! which would allow me to purchase a small quantity of shares (maybe just 1) with a printed certificate, suitable as a gift? Or is there some way I can do this myself?

Alternatively, if I do go with a US share, would it be a major hassle for the gift recipient to register the share in their name? I mean, it's primarily for novelty value, I suppose, but it's still better if they really own the stock. It just wouldn't be much of a gift if it creates a headache (or cost) for them.

Certificated stocks don't operate for Australian registered companies for a long time. Overseas companies were certified up until 2000/2001 though to make settlement easier companies went to CHESS (and also cheaper for the share registry).

The novelty cost is pricy though.

Hi EMP,

I received some British stocks in '02 and they were paper. I think that the presentability of the US novelty stock would win me. I'll have a framed Harley share any day!
