hey guys... this is my first time to this forum. i was wondering if anyone could give me advice or information on the chances of me receiving a total pernament disability insurance payout from my super?

so here are a few basic details... i'm 29 and female. for the last two years i have been receiving centrelink's dsp. my gf of 10 years also receives this payment. for the last 4 ish years i have had a part time job. i got this job only because of the fact that my mum has worked there for 23 years and that my gf could come along. it was only 2 hours a day.. 6 days a week. my boss was of course taxing me and taking out super. a month ago i quit/got fired... (the boss' sister now has my little job. but i felt accused as some money had apparently gone missing. so they wanted to cut back my hours etc etc. so i quit). (incase any of u are wondering... i would never steal. i live by the karma rules). anyways... my gf and i had just moved into a new rental townhouse etc and we found it extrememly financially difficult. so my parents told me i could find out if i was able to get some of my super money under financial hardship.

while talking to the person they made me aware that i was paying for a death cover and tpd insurance and that in 6 months after being totally unemployed i would be able to claim that payout. i was confused and i didn't really understand. but anyways she told me that i was insured for $228000. (this is with sunsuper if it matters). i almost had a heart attack.

here's what is wrong with me... i have had the same counsellor and psychiatrist and GP for the last two and a half years. i have been diagnosed with severe anxiety and ocd, suicidal ideation and occ. depression. i have been on multiple tablets and dosage amounts. my psych tells me i am on the highest dose that is legally possible. i have many reports from all of these people. and of course can get more. my psych also tells me that this payout is just about impossible to get due to mental health reasons. they all believe that i am never going to be able to work again.

i hate going into this but just incase it helps... i write a lot of suicide/dark poetry. i am a cutter and have required stitches. i want to die before i am 30. that won't change even if i get this money. i have 300+ mixed tabs waiting for me. my gf and i have a chihuahua... he is our son. he is almost 10. when he dies ... i die. i have very complex and morbid thoughts. i have a lot of reports regarding to all of this. my boss knew i was suicidal etc and i even let her read a poem. (i have known her since i was 6... due to my mum working there). my gf and i have no friends. i clean the house 3 times a day. it keeps me sane. well saner...

anyways... i was wondering... is there anyone that can comment or help me? i read somewhere i should seek out legal aide before claiming. is there anything else i should do... or am i wasting my time and hopes on this? thanks in advance...

    Hi Jayce,

You will find that many 'industry super funds' have a default 'unit' of cover that you will pay $1 per week or thereabouts for.

To meet the definitions, generally you need to be considered never likely to return to work in any real capacity in any field which you are reasonably suited by experience or qualification (most 'definitions' read somewhat similar to that anyway). Naturally this makes qualifying for a claim quite hard. I can understand that there would be special difficulty in proving this under mental health conditions.

It is also generally the case that these policies exclude pre-existing conditions...

My suggestion would be to request a claim form from them (Sunsuper). Fill in your details etc. If they knock back the claim, you are in no worse position..

    Lloyd

    thanks lloyd.

yeah it was $3 a week apparently. and i was only diagnosed with these mental illnesses about 2 years after i started working part time. have reports to prove it. sunsuper said i was unable to get the forms until it is time. so july ish.

honestly speaking... my gf and i can't live on our couple pension rate. so i will consider drastic measures if we don't get this money.
