Would appreciate any solid advice on the ins and outs of doing alternate investments? What are your thoughts?

    I'm still new at this...

But from what I'm reading and researching it seems that alternative investments are fairly low risk investments that are much easier to handle when you don't have a lot of expertise in the stock market. Also, there are so many alternative investments options to choose from, starting with art and stamps up to gold and shipping containers. I'm new on this forum so I'm not sure I can post links but I found a lot of information about alternative investments online.

    Shipping containers or Gold??

Thank you very much for your answer, but it is somewhat vague, since you've read a lot on the internet on the subject, could you give me more information on shipping containers and gold? I think those are the investments that at this moment I would be interested, I have not much money available for investment, therefore I want to know about low-risk investments.

    Hi,

I'm new to this forum and i'm looking for discussions on alternative high yielding investments.
I don't like huge amounts of risk but i understand that as they are not all regulated that I have to take some risk. I have looked into a whisky investment in Tasmania but decided against it so any thoughts would be good

Has anyone invested in Wine or Whisky?
I like the concept as it does seem obvious that the more a vintage is drunk , the less their is so the prices rise but not sure if I look at Australian wine through a merchant here or look at the Bordeaux, Burgundy market . I have found a company in Melbourne called 'Cult Wines Australia' that specialises in this area. I will get some more information from them and pass it on if there is any interest

The Whisky guys Nant seem to also have a compelling offer that guarantees 9.55% p.a but I have a slight fear of guarantees as it might seem to good to be true but again i will pass on info if anyone is interested.

    Have a good weekend

What information have you found on container investments? Some of the returns seem far too ambitious.

The 'ponzi' scheme versions have quite rightly got bad press, but I think its an investment, which done correctly can be rewarding. I don't invest in containers with them, but I have done business with them before, and can recommend Davenport La Roche.

Watches have some of the best returns for 'alternate investments'.

    Rolex Explorer
    Starting Price: $195
    Current Price: $18,000
    Term: 48 years
    Return per year: 9.9%

    Stock Market (S&P500)
    Term: 48 years
    Return per year: 9.6%*

    * assuming reinvestment of dividends. Without dividends reinvested, the return would have been 6.4% a year.

Licence plates also have a good return if you get rare plates like "1".
