Financial Planners

For those who are financial planners - has anyone gone from doing the Diploma course with no prior financial planning experience, to becoming a financial planner right after?

I heard from someone that you could get training in Insurance products, and then approach clients. How does this work???

Anyone want to comment on their experiences? And how you started?
